What is Etsy

In this tutorial you are going to learn what is Etsy and learn a little about the retail platform.

Step # 1 – An Introduction to the Homepage

As you can see here we are on the Etsy homepage. It is important to realize there are two main parts to Etsy, the part for buyers, and the part for sellers. Both of these groups are trading in unique vintage items, as well as arts and crafts displays. As you can see on the homepage there are a number of interesting items – these are sold by a wide range of individual sellers.

Step # 2 – Looking at and Buying an Item

Let’s have a look at the buying process on the site. First it’s a good idea to narrow down what you are looking for, on the left you can see several options, let’s click on “Vintage”. On the next page you will be able to narrow down the results further, click on the type of product you are interested in. Now many items for sale will be displayed, click on one that you are interested in and a new page will load. From here you can see details of the item, who is selling it and you can even purchase it.

Step # 3 – Selling on Etsy

Let’s also have a look at the selling side of what is Etsy. Click the “Sell” button at the top of the page. On the page that loads you can see the three types of item that Etsy allows for sale: handmade, vintage, or supplies. Assuming you have something like this to sell look to the right of the page click “List your item”. On the next page you will be able to enter information about your product and then list it for sale. As you can see from this video, Etsy is simply a platform for people buying and selling unique items to come together.
