In this tutorial, we will teach you how to calculate carbon footprint. The online carbon footprint tool helps you calculate your impact on the climate. It estimates the total number of tons of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases our choices create each year.
Step 1 – Go to nature.org
Follow this step by step guide to learn how to calculate carbon footprint.
First of all, open a web browser of your choice and insert the following in the address bar:
Nature.org/greenliving/carboncalculator/index.htm
Step 2 – Choose the number of members in your household
This will open up the web page of nature conservancy. Their aim is to protect the nature and preserve life. Their online carbon footprint tool helps you calculate your impact on the climate. It estimates the total number of tons of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases our choices create each year. In order to get started, choose the number of members in your household. Also, you can calculate the impact for yourself alone or your entire household. For the purpose of this tutorial, we will select 4 and then click on the “for my household” button.
Step 3 – Home Energy
In the next page, select where you live. Next, you’d be asked to select the household type and the number of bedrooms available at your place. Then you’d have to answer questions regarding your home energy as truly as possible. There will be three questions with three options for each. Options will range from environment friendly measures to no precautionary measures.
Step 4 – Driving & Flying
Once you are done, go to the driving & flying tab. Here select, the vehicle that you drive and then answer the questions below to record your driving and flying impact.
Step 5 – Food & Diet Impact
Next, go to the food & diet tab and answer the questions here in order to calculate your food & diet impact. Once you have answered the questions for the recycling & waste tab, click on the results tab.
Step 6 – View behavior breakdown
On the results page, you’d have pie charts from where you can compare your behavior breakdown against the U.S Average behavior breakdown. You can view the average carbon and calculate & compare the individual stat with the normal trend.
Step 7 – View Carbon Footprint calculation
On the right hand side, you’d have the final carbon footprint calculator results. There, you can compare your household gas emissions from that of the US. Furthermore, you can compare your household average with the world average as well. Carbon Footprint can be calculated in this manner.
